33 Years In. The Journey Starts Now.
My name is Ivan. I have been playing golf since I was 16, and now, 33 years later, I want to know how much golf potential I have and just how good I can be.
As a young bloke, my sporting passion was cricket. Test cricket. I loved watching test matches, playing pretend test matches at school or after school. All I ever wanted was to be Malcolm Marshall. I played junior cricket from under 12 to under 16's but at some stage I fell out of love with the whole team sport thing and decided to give cricket up. I had an uncle who played golf, and it seemed so exotic and out of reach. Where I lived too, only the well off kids played golf. They had access to courses through their parents who played or through their association with other kids who played golf.
After a couple of outings to the driving range with my cousin and my uncle and a trip around a golf course to play a couple quiet holes, I was hooked. The individual challenge really appealed to me, as well as the immediate understanding that great skill would be required to play well. So eventually, through some saving and a bit of luck with the classifieds, I managed to purchase a used set of clubs from the "Trading Post" and I was off and running.
Now, after many years of casual, intermittent golf, and may a few periods of intense trying, I am keen to see what my true potential is.
